Alexander Technique. Proven. Simple. Powerful.

About me:

I’m Haynes Brooke, an AmSAT-certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. I’ve been a professional actor for more than thirty years. An amateur athlete, songwriter, musician, screenwriter, playwright, editor. Husband and father. AT has helped me immensely. I started iTeachAT.com to help share this exciting work with as many people as possible. I hope that includes you.

What is AT?

AT teaches you to explore movement in a way that helps you be easier in yourself. You’ll discover things about how you sit, stand, walk, run, work, move, and think. You’ll find out how to simplify your actions and cooperate with your design. You’ll let go of habits. You’ll bring new clarity to existing skills. You’ll ease tension, lessen pain. You’ll find that living in your body can be easier than you think.

Who is AT for?

Everyone. AT has been taught for more than 120 years to all kinds of people all over the world. Those who consider their body an instrument are often drawn to it — singers, musicians, actors, dancers, athletes. AT has helped countless people who suffer from back and neck pain find ease again. Anyone who is interested in being more free, graceful, poised, aware, spontaneous, powerful and balanced will benefit from AT.

Is it scientific?

Yep. AT is grounded in tangible, experiential work. In a sense, you learn how to conduct simple experiments in how you use your own body. Many scientific studies support the methodology behind AT and document its effectiveness. Start here if you are interested in exploring the science. There’s a lot. AT works.

Is AT hard to learn?

Nope. All it takes is an interest, a desire to explore and experiment, a willingness to try something new, some time, and a teacher or teachers. It’s a bit like learning an instrument — you can learn three chords on a guitar and play thousands of songs, or study it for a lifetime. You decide. With AT your instrument is yourself.

How do I start?

I’m here to help. Contact me! I’ll also share free information on this site through videos. I teach in person if you’re in LA, or online if you’re anywhere else. Or I can help point you toward other teachers, useful videos, good books, even an app that’s quite helpful. You can learn one-on-one from a teacher, in groups, on Zoom, or any combination. It’s easy to get easier!

Living things are designed to move. Rediscover how easy that can be.

Human beings wouldn’t be here if we hadn’t evolved to be powerful, graceful, resilient, adaptable, tough, agile, quick, coordinated, versatile, perceptive creatures who can walk, run, jump, roll, squat, swim, throw, kick, dig, climb, speak, shout and sing. And of course think, remember, plan and dream.

We can also teach each other the best of what we’ve learned so we can all share in the fullness of our inheritance as human beings. Teaching Alexander Technique is my place to start with that project.
