AT works.

Explore.

Have fun.

Get easier.

Living things are made to move.

Rediscover how easy that can be.

About me.

I’m Haynes Brooke, an AmSAT-certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. I’ve been a professional actor for more than thirty years. Also a songwriter, screenwriter, playwright, director, editor, videographer, sound designer, amateur athlete, dog owner, husband and father. In all this, AT has helped me immensely. I started iTeachAT.com to help share this exciting work with as many people as possible. I hope that includes you.

What is AT?

AT teaches you how to be easier in yourself. You’ll discover things about how you sit, stand, walk, run work, move, and think. You find out how to simplify your actions and cooperate with your design. You’ll let go of habits you didn’t even know you had. You’ll find that living in your body can be easier than you think.

Who is AT for?

Everyone. AT has been taught for more than 120 years to all kinds of people all over the world. Those who consider their body an instrument are naturally drawn to it — singers, musicians, actors, dancers, athletes. AT has also helped countless people who suffer from back and neck pain find ease again. Anyone who is interested in being more free, graceful, poised, aware, spontaneous, still, powerful, and balanced with benefit from AT.

Is AT scientific?

Yep. AT is grounded in tangible, experiential work. In a sense, you learn how to conduct simple experiments in how you use your own body. Many scientific studies support the methodology behind AT and document its remarkable effectiveness. Start here if you are interested in exploring the science. There’s a lot.

Is AT hard to learn?

Nope. All it takes is an interest, a desire to explore and experiment, a willingness to try something new, some time, and a teacher or teachers. It’s a bit like learning an instrument — you can learn three chords on a guitar or study it for a lifetime. Totally up to you. With AT, the instrument you’re learning (really rediscovering) is yourself. That’s why it’s so much fun.

How do I start?

Contact me if you’d like lessons either in person in the LA area, or over Zoom. But I’ll also share as much information as I can on this site through free videos. Although nothing beats learning live from a teacher, videos can really help give a sense of the work. I’ll also happily point you toward other teachers, books, online stuff, and even an app that’s quite helpful. There are many ways to start learning AT. It’s easy to get easier!

Do you feel the need to know even more about me?

I teach AT.

AT helped me get out of pain, find more ease, stillness, freedom, depth and just plain fun in the business of inhabiting a body and living a life. I wish I had started working with AT sooner — so I decided to teach it. Whether you are interested in refining your abilities in a technically demanding skill like acting or playing an instrument, hoping to find your way out of pain and into more ease, or simply curious about whether there might be an easier way to just be in yourself, welcome. AT works!

AT helps you rediscover the free, joyful sense of being in your body that is your natural inheritance as a human.

No matter what age you are.
